Ukraine fortifies its northern border with Russia and Belarus

Lieutenant General Serhiy Nayev, the commander of the North grouping of troops, has reported the establishment of a defensive facility in the border area of the Chernihiv region to deter the attack of at least a battalion of enemy forces

The Joint Forces Command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported the information.

Lieutenant General Serhiy Nayev conducted a visit to inspect the construction progress of a company stronghold along the intermediate defense line in the Chernihiv region. He affirmed that the situation in this region is currently under control. Despite Russian artillery and mortar shelling on Ukrainian territory, as well as the deployment of attack drones and attempts to use subversive reconnaissance groups, there are no offensive groups detected along the border with the Chernihiv region.

"However, we are not sitting idly by. The Defense Forces are proactive. We are increasing the number and effectiveness of mobile air defense firing groups, and counter-sabotage work is ongoing. But, most importantly, we are building defensive lines and creating a powerful system of engineering barriers. All this is done to make Ukrainian citizens feel safe. In the future, if the threat grows, additional combat brigades will be ready to arrive at the constructed facilities and take up their prepared positions," said Nayev.

He pointed out that in the past few months, the quantity of fortifications in the Northern Operational Zone has risen by 63%. These fortifications align with those being established in other northern regions, spanning from Volyn to Kharkiv, as they adhere to a standardized scheme. Adjustments are only made to accommodate the specific features of each respective area.

Concrete defenses, dugouts, and firing positions have been erected along the border in the Chernihiv region. A system of both explosive and non-explosive engineering barriers is formed in front of the stronghold.

"In the future, after civilian organizations complete their work here, certain areas will be densely mined. Thus, we are creating a facility that should be able to deter the attack of at least a battalion of enemy forces. The company strongholds create a whole defensive strip, which, in turn, is capable of deterring much larger military formations," Nayev summarized.
