191 clashes occur at front on Dec. 31: Ukraine repels 57 Russian assaults near Pokrovsk

On December 31, 191 clashes took place on the Russian-Ukrainian front. The fiercest fighting is near Pokrovsk, with high Russian activity in the Lyman and Kramatorsk directions

The Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff reported this as of 8:00 a.m. on January 1.  

Yesterday, the Russian military launched five missile attacks involving 25 missiles and 10 air strikes, including 29 guided bombs. In addition, they fired over 3,200 rounds of fire, including 165 from multiple launch rocket systems, and used about 1,260 'kamikaze' drones.

The aggressor carried out air strikes near the settlements of Zelene Pole, Kamianske, and Stepnohirsk.

Yesterday, the Ukrainian aviation, missile forces and artillery of the Defense Forces hit eight areas of Russian troops' concentration, a UAV control center, an air defense facility, two fuel and lubricant depots, two radar stations and six other important Russian targets.

Frontline update

In the Kharkiv direction, one hostile attack took place in the vicinity of Vovchansk yesterday.

In the Kupyansk direction, seven Russian attacks took place over the last day. Ukrainian Defense Forces rebuffed the Russian assault in the areas of Lozova, Nova Kruhliakivka, and Zahryzove.

In the Lyman direction, the Russian forces attacked 19 times. They tried to advance near Nadiia, Pershotravneve, Zelenyi Hai, Novoiehorivka, Yampolivka, Terny, Dibrova and in the directions of Druzheliubivka, Cherneshchyna, Novoserhiivka.

In the Siversk direction, the Russian troops attempted to force the Ukrainian defenders from their positions near Bilohorivka and Hryhorivka eight times yesterday. They were unsuccessful.

In the Kramatorsk direction, thirty-two assault operations took place in the vicinity of Chasiv Yar, Stupochky, Bila Hora and Predtechyne yesterday. Three of them are still ongoing.

In the Toretsk direction, the Russian invaders carried out 13 attacks in the areas of Shcherbynivka, Bila Hora and Toretsk.

In the Pokrovsk direction, the Ukrainian Armed Forces stopped 57 aggressor's assault and offensive actions towards Zelene Pole, Baranivka, Novotoretske, Promin, Lysivka, Myrnohrad, Kotlyne, Solone, Shevchenko, Novooleksandrivka, Dachenske, Zelene, Novyi Trud, Vovkove, Pishchane and Novovasylivka.

In the Kurakhove direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces fought off 20 Russian attacks. The Russian forces concentrated their main offensive efforts in the areas of Petropavlivka, Dachne, Ukrainka, Shevchenko and Kurakhove.

In the Vremivka direction, the Russian forces launched 11 attacks on the Ukrainian positions near Kostiantynopolske, Dachne, Rozlyv, Velyka Novosilka and Neskuchne.

In the Huliaipole direction, the occupying Russian army did not conduct any active operations.

 In the Orikhiv direction, near Novoandriivka, the invaders made three futile attempts to push the Ukrainian defenders from their positions.

In the Prydniprovskyi direction, Russian invaders attacked the Ukrainian positions three times. Having suffered losses, they retreated.

In the Kursk direction, Ukrainian defenders beat back 13 Russian attacks yesterday, the enemy fired 373 artillery shells, carried out 3 air strikes, and dropped 3 guided bombs.

On the border with Belarus, no signs of Russian offensive groups were detected.

On the border with Chernihiv and Sumy regions, the Russian aggressor is using artillery in the vicinity of Ukrainian settlements.

  • Over the past day, Ukraine's Defense Forces eliminated at least 1,250 Russian soldiers, along with several pieces of equipment and weapons at the front.
