Mariupol has become the Ukrainian Hiroshima on the scale of casualties and destruction - Taruta
The former head of the Donetsk OVA Serhiy Taruta believes that Mariupol is the most tragic page of Russia's war against Ukraine.
He expressed this opinion on the air of Espreso.TV
"Kramatorsk is completely under our control. The enemy does not stop trying to capture Severodonetsk. Fighting continues there. Our defenders hold their positions and we hope that the defense of Severodonetsk will give a worthy answer to the Russian occupiers. The enemy is trying to take the south of the city of Izyum, go to Slovyansk and Kramatorsk, then go to Pokrovsk and surround Zaporizhzhia and the Dnipro. I am sure that we will not allow such a scenario to develop," Taruta said.
He called the city of Mariupol a global catastrophe. In his opinion, the city has become the most tragic page of Russia's war against Ukraine.
"Mariupol became the Ukrainian Hiroshima in terms of the number of dead and destroyed infrastructure facilities. As for the Drama Theater, only a part of the people came out of the bomb shelter. The rest remains there. There, people hid under the stage and in the building itself. They survived because the building itself turned out to be quite strong,” Taruta said.
It will be recalled that on March 16, the occupiers dropped a powerful bomb on the Mariupol Drama Theater, which had 1,000 people in the bomb shelter. The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba reacted to the shelling of the Mariupol Theater.
March 17 in Mariupol began to dismantle the debris after a Russian airstrike on the drama theater, people come out of the bomb shelter alive.
