Lviv holds half-marathon on Sunday: 12-year-old Yana, who lost both legs in Kramatorsk, took part in competition
12-year-old Yana Stepanenko, who recently got prosthetics and rehabilitation in the USA, also completed the "Mile of Invincibility" with wounded soldiers using her new prosthetics
Yana and her mother were among the 121 victims of a ruthless rocket attack on Kramatorsk's railway station on April 8, 2022. They had just come to get some hot tea from the volunteers when everything suddenly exploded. While they didn't end up on the list of the 61 casualties, their lives were forever changed that day. Yana's mother lost one leg, and Yana lost both.
Nevertheless, they showed incredible determination and managed to get back on their feet, even if not entirely on their own.
We're immensely proud of them, just as they are, shaped by the war. And we're putting all our effort into getting closer to victory for their sake, aiming for a peaceful and prosperous life for Yana and her mother.
