Lithuanian President Nauseda calls for strengthened sanctions against Russia
President Gitanas Nauseda says that as Russia is continuing its war against Ukraine, the world community needs to further strengthen sanctions and cut off Russia from global supplies and technological progress

"Sanctions should be painful, effective, as well as inevitable", Nauseda said during a meeting with European Commission member Mairead McGuinness.
The President and the European Commissioner discussed the economic situation in Europe, the impact of EU sanctions on Russia and Belarus, the effectiveness of the implementation of sanctions, as well as the improvement of their implementation.
The President of Lithuania emphasized that it is necessary to cooperate with third countries in order to prevent circumvention of sanctions. According to him, the leadership of the European Commission in this matter is extremely important.
Discussing the issue of the creation of banking unions and capital market unions, the President of Lithuania noted that in order to increase the economic and financial stability of the EU, it is necessary to complete the creation of banking unions and capital market unions and to pay more attention to digital financing and financing of sustainable development.
"We must continue to strengthen Lithuania's position as a digital financial center in the world and create opportunities for citizens and businesses to participate in the digital and green transformation of the economy", Nauseda said.
