Lithuania bans Russians from buying real estate in country

On Tuesday, April 4, the Lithuanian government adopted a ban on the purchase of real estate on its territory for Russian citizens. The reasons include a risk to national security, Reuters reports.

The ban on the purchase of real estate for Russians will be in effect until 2024, the Lithuanian parliament decided, citing a risk to national security.

In addition, official Vilnius stops issuing visas to citizens of Russia and Belarus. At the same time, if such people already have valid visas, they will be subject to "individualized enhanced checks" at the border to determine whether they pose a threat to national security.

"The vast majority of Russian citizens support their country's aggressive military actions, and do not take actions to stop the aggression of their country's regime, so they share the responsibility," said Deputy Foreign Minister Jurgita Neliupsiene.

The ban will not apply to Russians who have been granted the right to reside in the country.

Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs has decided to add 35 people who supported Russia's aggression against Ukraine to the list of persons undesirable to the Republic of Latvia.
