The Lithuanian parliament, the Seimas, reported on Twitter.

"The Lithuanian Seimas unanimously adopted the resolution "On restricting the influence of terrorist Russia", and appeals to its allies, namely, EU member states and NATO member countries, to maximise their efforts in initiating a comprehensive international isolation of Russia," the statement reads.

The Seimas website notes that the resolution was initiated by the chairman of the Future Committee, Raimundas Lopata. 114 members of the Seimas unanimously voted for the document.

The resolution proposes that EU countries jointly create and expand the EU legal framework. According to it, some states will be recognized as countries that support terrorism and use terrorist means. Russia is proposed to be included in the list of countries that support such terrorism.

At the same time, the European Union is asked to ensure the implementation of the EU sanctions policy, as well as to prevent any evasion of sanctions, investigate such cases of violation and bring offenders to justice. To this end, the Seimas proposed to consider the possibility of appointing a permanent special member of the European Commission to be responsible for these tasks. It will also encourage EU candidate countries and potential candidate countries to align their policies with the EU's common policy in order to complete the creation of a legal regime for the confiscation of Russia's frozen assets in the EU and to establish an international mechanism for compensation for damages caused by Russian aggression as a means of compensating Ukraine for the losses caused by the war.

In addition, the EU was asked to ensure that Russian political parties and their members are included in the EU sanctions lists.

"Taking into account these provisions of the resolution, the Seimas proposed to the Government to raise at the international level the issue of recognizing Russia as a state that supports and commits terrorism, its responsibility for war crimes, crimes against humanity or genocide in Ukraine and the establishment of a Special International Criminal Tribunal to investigate the crime of Russian aggression at the level of the democratic world," the statement said.

  • On March 18, media reported that 16 Ukrainian defenders were taking a 3-week shooting instructor course in Lithuania.
