Lithuania acquires two NASAMS air defense systems for Ukraine
On June 28, the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda announced that the country had purchased two NASAMS anti-aircraft missile systems for Ukraine
He wrote about it on Twitter.
The President of Lithuania noted that the SAMs will soon be handed over to our country and emphasized that he is waiting for new collective decisions on support for Ukraine at the NATO summit in Vilnius.
"Lithuania has acquired two NASAMS launchers that will be transferred to Ukraine. Air defense is key in Ukraine’s fight against the aggressor. Looking forward to more collective decisions on support to Ukraine at the NATO summit in Vilnius," the message reads.
Nauseda later added that the cost of the two NASAMS launchers purchased for Ukraine is about EUR 9.8 million. The launchers will be fully prepared for integration into existing Ukrainian units to complement and expand the operational capabilities of the NASAMS systems provided to Ukraine by Norway and the United States.
In addition, the planned aid package will include 10 M113 armored personnel carriers. This will bring the total number of armored personnel carriers donated by Lithuania to 72 units.
"For 2023, Lithuania has ordered 12.5 million rounds of ammunition for Ukraine, of which 2.5 million will be delivered in the near future. Thousands of units of anti-tank ammunition for grenade launchers will also be transferred in the near future," the President of Lithuania said.
