Latvian President calls for pro-Russian citizens' isolation from society

Latvian President Egils Levits says that Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine has illuminated pockets of disloyalty within Latvian society, and that the government's task is now to isolate those from the rest of the community

This is reported by LSM..

"After the war that Russia started in Ukraine, we in Latvia have become more patriotic and national, and also better understand the price of freedom", Levits said.

He stated that the war in Ukraine made Latvia "more sensitive" to the presence of Russia and Russian sentiments in the country. For example, now they perceive Russian monuments much more painfully.

Levits said that since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, both positive and negative aspects can be observed in Latvian society.

According to the president, the positive effect is that the majority of Latvians have become better aware of their country and the price of freedom.

"The war showed that we, Latvians, are for a safe country", Levits said.

On the other hand, the negative effect is that "a part of Russian society disloyal to the state" appeared.

"Our task is to deal with this (Part - Ed.) and isolate it from society", the president said.
