Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko’s Deputy Petro Panteleyev shared these details in an interview with Censor.NET.
"Currently, we have 15 scenarios [for emergency response]. In August, we will conduct training on the resilience of the city's life support system during a blackout. We regularly conduct such staff training sessions to prepare for various scenarios, including the worst-case scenario. These include scenarios in case of damage to infrastructure facilities," said Panteleyev.
Panteleev emphasized that Kyiv is approaching winter preparations with heightened responsibility and thoroughness. He stated, "Around two-thirds of the required work has already been completed. We have a comprehensive plan and schedule that we are following. We have two months remaining to finalize necessary repairs and tasks, aiming to conclude by October 1. Mayor Klitschko is personally overseeing this crucial area, conducting inspections and monitoring equipment readiness on-site."
He named the restoration of damaged facilities and physical protection of critical infrastructure as priorities for the city authorities.
The deputy noted that priority areas for city authorities include restoring damaged facilities and providing physical protection for critical infrastructure. "We are actively working to safeguard our energy sector against potential harm, considering its condition and service life. Last year, we concentrated on furnishing generators for heating stations, and this initiative has been successfully fulfilled. Additionally, several small boiler houses are now generator-equipped. A number of water supply and sewage facilities have also been outfitted with generators, while certain residential complexes are integrating these devices into their heat circulation and water pumping systems. Over 150 pump room complexes are also designed for swift generator connection," he elaborated.
Panteleyev highlighted that Kyiv experienced 15 missile attacks on energy facilities last winter. Over the course of Russia's full-scale aggression, it damaged approximately 63% of equipment crucial for ensuring a stable and normal autumn-winter period. The primary impact was on electricity generation equipment, accentuating the need for energy conservation during the upcoming winter season.
