Kuleba calls on EU states to support creation of special tribunal for Russia
Ukraine is counting on a strong and unified position regarding the special tribunal at the European Council meeting and during the vote for the UN General Assembly resolution
Ukraine's Foreign Affairs Minister Dmytro Kuleba said this during an online speech at the Council of the EU Foreign Ministers on Monday.
“The only thing that provoked Putin to barbaric aggression in the heart of Europe is his sense of complete impunity. He felt it for many years and was convinced that he would get away with it. The only way to stop this once and for all is to create a Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine. It will be able to bring Russia's top political and military leadership to justice,” Kuleba said.
In particular, he also thanked the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, for supporting the idea of creating a special tribunal. He also called on all EU member states to support it as well.
“We are counting on a strong and unified position regarding the special tribunal at the next meeting of the European Council,” the minister said.
Also, Dmytro Kuleba once again reminded that the creation of a special tribunal will in no way interfere with the important work of the International Criminal Court, but will only complement it. He confirmed Ukraine's commitment to the important efforts of the ICC and partners to investigate war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.
