Kremlin understands continuing war threatens Russia’s unity - political scientist
Andreas Umland, an analyst at the Stockholm Center for Eastern European Studies, believes that the Kremlin wants to end the war
He said this on the air of the Espreso TV channel.
"Through Schroeder (former Federal Chancellor of Germany Gerhard Schroeder, - ed.) Putin gave a signal that the Kremlin understands that the continuation of the war is risky for Russia. Sanctions are putting more and more pressure on Russia and there will be no negotiations. They already understand that the West is not losing interest to Ukraine," noted Andreas Umland.
The political scientist also added that internal instability is already observed in Russia.
"The Kremlin hoped that after a certain time interest in Ukraine would decrease, support for Ukraine would decrease. The Kremlin wants to end the war. It wants the sanctions to be lifted. The Kremlin already understands that the war is a threat to the unity of the Russian Federation," the political scientist noted.
