Kherson is actually frontline, shelling doesn't abate - Dmytro Pletenchuk
Dmytro Pletenchuk, the press officer of the Kherson defense commandant's office, says that the Russian forces are shelling the city systematically, using large-caliber artillery, MLRS and mortars
He said this on Espreso TV.
“Today, December 9, after 3:00 p.m., the enemy began shelling the outskirts of the city. The shelling does not stop during the day. The enemy is doing this systematically, using large-caliber artillery, MLRS, and mortars that can reach Kherson from the left bank of the Dnipro River. The distance is small, only 500 meters to the frontline. That is, in fact, Kherson is the frontline,” he noted.
Dmytro Pletenchuk noted that the Russian enemy is attacking residential areas and neighboring villages, which is why shells are flying into the houses of the civilian population.
Pletenchuk commented on the situation on the islands between the right and left banks of the Dnipro River: “The area of the main island is completely under the Ukrainian Armed Forces' control. It is a part of Kherson that is connected to the city by bridges. Our frontline runs along the Dnipro River, accordingly, the occupiers are on the small islands and are trying to terrorize us from there. They are also shelling the right bank with small arms. There were even cases of shooting at people who just came to collect water. It is not possible to go to the right bank: firstly, the enemy has left many minefields, and secondly, we are also mining the right bank of the Dnipro River. Therefore, on behalf of the commandant of the defense of the city of Kherson, I want to warn people that the dangerous areas of the coast of the right bank have been mined in order to make the work of Russian sabotage and intelligence groups impossible. Accordingly, it is prohibited to go to the shore, as well as to dock or depart from the bank of the Dnipro River on the right side.”
