Head of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration Oleh Syniehubov said this in an interview with Liga.NET.
He could not name the exact country of origin of the missiles, but said that, according to experts, they were most likely DPRK-made missiles.
"Our intelligence units will continue to work to establish the country of origin. At first, we thought it was Kinzhals. The speed was 7,500 m/s, which means they are hypersonic missiles, and we recorded this speed. However, the analysis of the wreckage later confirmed that it was an Iskander-M, which also has the same ballistic characteristics," he said.
According to him, this is a deadly weapon, and Russia has used it to strike at civilian infrastructure. This is another terrorist act against civilians, the official emphasized.
He refused to specify whether the region has air defense systems to shoot down ballistic missiles.
"It's a secret," he said.
He noted that the air defense facilities are located quite close to the border with Russia, so there is a risk of their destruction.
