The Italian news agency ANSA reported that Cecca, missing since 2024, was confirmed dead while fighting Russian forces.

His death was announced on the Facebook page Memorial International Volunteer for Ukraine, dedicated to honoring foreign volunteers who have fallen in Ukraine. The post read: "Our Beloved Italian Brother Luca Cecca, who had been serving in Ukraine as a Volunteer succumbed on the Battlefield. Honor, Glory and Gratitude To Our Brother."

Cecca, a native of Rome, was officially listed as missing since December 2024. Sources indicate he was killed while fighting in Donetsk, a region de facto annexed by Russia.

He is the ninth Italian to die in the war in Ukraine, following Thomas D'Alba, Antonio Omar Dridi, Manuel Mameli, Angelo Costanza, Massimiliano Galletti, Elia Putzolu (who sided with the pro-Russian forces), Benjamin Giorgio Galli, and Edy Ongaro.
