Incognito country buys 50 Leopard 1 tanks for Ukraine from Belgium – media
An unidentified country has bought 50 Leopard 1 tanks, which were decommissioned by the Belgian army, for Ukraine. The first combat vehicles have already been shipped
This was reported by the Belgian Business AM.
50 Leopard 1 tanks, which were decommissioned several years ago and stored in a warehouse in the city of Tournai, were purchased by an unknown country for Ukraine.
Belgium reportedly did not plan to transfer them to the Ukrainian military, as it was too expensive to make them operational.
According to the publication, the country sold the tanks to OIP Land Systems for only 15,000 euros each due to a lack of hangars to store the decommissioned vehicles. The first Leopard 1s are already being shipped to Ukraine via Germany and Italy after being repaired and equipped with new weapons systems.
It is not known which country bought the armoured vehicles. At the moment, only Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands have announced that they would donate Leopard tanks to Ukraine.
