"In the worst traditions of the USSR NKVD": Ukraine accuses Georgian authorities of torturing Saakashvili
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine accused the Georgian authorities of brutal treatment toward a citizen of Ukraine, ex-president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili
The press service of the MFA of Ukraine states this.
"In the worst traditions of the USSR NKVD, the Georgian authorities are using psychological and physical violence against Mikheil Saakashvili, denying him urgent medical care, deliberately creating a direct threat to his life," the message said.
"The gross violation of human rights against a Ukrainian citizen does not align with the declared course of Tbilisi for EU membership, and indicates the failure of democracy in Georgia," they added.
It is also demanded that Saakashvili is handed over to Ukraine for continued treatment.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also called on foreign governments and international organizations to publicly defend Saakashvili.
