The British edition of the Guardian has published a selection of the best photos of 2022.
"In a year dominated by the war in Ukraine, the plight of migrants and the climate crisis, photographers recall how they captured 20 outstanding images." Among them was a photo by Dmytro Kozatskyi with the call sign Orest, who took it while defending the besieged Azovstal.
The author of the photo Dmytro Kozatskyi reacted to the news on Twitter:
"Oh, my photo from Azovstal was included in the list of the best photos of the year according to the Guardian," Orest wrote.
- On May 20, Dmytro Kozatskyi published farewell photos from Azovstal.
- He also asked Twitter users to send his photos to journalistic awards and photo contests. "If I win something, I will be very pleased after leaving. Thank you all for your support. See you soon," he wrote.
- On June 6, Iryna Yurchenko, the mother of Dmytro Kozatskyi, a soldier of the Azov regiment, said that she received requests from different parts of the world for permission to take photos from Azovstal, which Dmytro took, for photo exhibitions on the topic of the Russian war against Ukraine.
- In September, Orest won first place at The Light Will Win photo exhibition in Paris for a series of photos from Azovstal.
- On October 2, Azovstal defender Dmytro Kozatskyi won the Kharkiv MeetDocs festival award for his film The Last Day at Azovstal.
