IAEA representatives witness blackout of ChNPP industrial site

From November 22 to 24, IAEA conducted inspections at Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and Central Radioactive Waste Management Enterprise.

The State Inspection for Nuclear Regulation of Ukraine reports on its website.

During the mission, IAEA representatives visited radioactive waste disposal sites Pidlisniy and Buryakivka, Vektor production complex of Central Enterprise for Management of Radioactive Waste and laboratories of ChNPP State Special Enterprise. They also had the opportunity to personally communicate with personnel of enterprises, familiarize themselves with working conditions and available equipment.

According to results of the mission, IAEA representatives studied existing state of facilities of enterprises in order to provide necessary assistance, namely the renewal of technical equipment of ChNPP and Central Enterprise for Management of Radioactive Waste, State Inspectorate for Nuclear Regulation reported.

In addition, State Inspectorate noted that IAEA representatives were carrying out their mission in Chornobyl exclusion zone during another missile attack on Ukraine's energy system by Russia on November 23. Thus, they witnessed de-energization of Chernobyl NPP industrial site and transfer of its facilities to emergency power supply system from diesel generators.
