Children are losing the most because of the war in Ukraine, Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said on Tuesday, July 19, adding that although Hungary is doing everything possible to "ease the pain" of Ukrainian children, the real solution will be peace.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, the country received about 840,000 refugees from Ukraine during the 146 days of full-scale war.
According to the minister, about 500 Ukrainian children attended Hungarian kindergartens, and schools accepted about 1,700 Ukrainian students. The government also provided special treatment for 130 children and offered scholarships for 1,000 Ukrainian students to study at Hungarian higher education institutions.
At the same time, he emphasized that the only real solution would be peace.
"Peace is the solution to curbing wartime inflation gripping our European economy. Peace is the solution to the uncertainty of our energy supply in Europe. Peace is the solution to preventing a food crisis. And peace is also the solution to ending the suffering of children so that families can be reunited and no more children will be forced to flee," he said.
