Hungarian Foreign Minister demands EU guarantees that Russian nuclear power industry will escape sanctions
Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Péter Szijjártó has appealed to the EU with a demand to guarantee that Russian nuclear energy will not be subject to sanctions
He wrote about this on his page in the social network and added that he will speak about this at the Congress of Nuclear Energy of Central and Eastern Europe in Prague.
He emphasized that in the first sanctions package of the EU, it was said that Russia's nuclear energy will not be subject to sanctions.
"We call on the European Commission to ensure that all Brussels institutions, all national authorities, and all banks operating in Europe comply with this provision," Szijjártó said.
It should be noted that in August of this year, Hungary issued a permit that will allow the Russian state company Rosatom to build two new nuclear reactors on the territory of the country.
For reference. The Paks nuclear power plant is the only operational nuclear power plant in Hungary. The station was built according to the Soviet project, all 4 reactors are of the VVER-440 type. Construction of two VVER-1200 reactors is planned.
