Horrific attack that illustrates Russia’s barbarity – Sunak on missile hit in Hroza
The UK Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, has commented on the Russian attack in the Ukrainian village of Hroza, where a missile killed at least 51 civilians at a memorial dinner in a cafe
Rishi Sunak said he had discussed with the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, a Russian missile strike in Ukraine on Thursday, leaving 51 people dead, the Guardian reports.
“We discussed this horrific attack that has just happened. It just illustrates Russia’s barbarity,” Sunak told reporters after a meeting with Zelenskyy at a summit of the European Political Community in Spain.
“[Russian] president Putin can say all he likes. There is one person responsible for this illegal unprovoked war, and it is him…That’s why the UK has been steadfast in supporting Ukraine and will continue to do so,” Sunak added.
A Russian missile struck a grocery store and a cafe in a village in north-eastern Ukraine on Thursday, killing at least 51 people as they had a memorial dinner.
The attack was the deadliest in the Kharkiv region since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
Media report it could be one of the biggest civilian death tolls in any single Russian strike since the start of the war.
