Maksym Marchenko, head of Odesa Regional Military Administration, reported this on Telegram.

"Serious accident occurred at one of the energy facilities of Ukrenergo (Ukraine’s national electricity company - ed.), which caused a fire. Due to this, Odesa region and Odesa city were almost completely cut off. As of now, almost 500,000 subscribers have no electricity. We have taken emergency measures to eliminate the consequences of the accident and restore the power supply. I had a conversation with the Prime Minister of Ukraine and leadership of the Ukrainian President's Office," Marchenko wrote.

In particular, according to him, the Minister of Energy and head of Ukrenergo were urgently dispatched to Odesa. An urgent meeting of the operational headquarters to eliminate the accident and supply electricity to consumers was held. All services and facilities are involved.

Marchenko also added that the damage is complex and severe, so it is too early to make predictions when repairs will be completed. Heating, drainage and water supply work as usual.

"At the request of the military administration and with the assistance of state leadership, a certain number of generators will be delivered to Odesa, which are available not only at the Ministry of Energy, but also at the State Emergency Service. They will be used to connect critical infrastructure. We are expecting first generators already this evening," head of Odesa Regional Military Administration wrote.

  • On February 3, it was reported that 4 districts in Odesa were cut off due to the accident: Suvorivskyi, Malynovskyi and Prymorskyi districts of Odesa and part of Odesa region.

  • Due to the difficult situation that occurred in Odesa as a result of the accident at a high-voltage substation, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal instructed to bring to Odesa all powerful generators that are available at the Ministry of Energy.
