He said this at a meeting of the UN General Assembly on February 6.
“We need to wake up - and get to work,” the UN Secretary-General said.
According to him, he is most concerned about the fact that the war in Ukraine has been going on for almost a year, but he sees no chance of a peaceful end to it.
“The prospects for peace keep diminishing. The chances of further escalation and bloodshed keep growing,” Guterres noted.
“I fear the world is not sleepwalking into a wider war. I fear it is doing so with its eyes wide open,” he said.
