Global crypto exchanges block accounts Russians use to bypass sanctions - State Bureau of Investigation
Ukraine appealed to the world's leading cryptocurrency exchanges, urging them to stop enabling the circumvention of international sanctions on Russia. All the crypto accounts flagged by Ukraine have now been frozen
The State Bureau of Investigation made an announcement on its website.
Russians had been using cryptocurrency exchanges as one means of circumventing the sanctions imposed on Russia by the international community.
"The Bureau has found that certain representatives of the crypto industry have allowed users from Russia and Belarus to carry out anonymous cross-border currency and cryptocurrency transactions contrary to FATF requirements, circumventing sanctions," the statement said.
Sanctions and financing of subversive activities against Ukraine are being circumvented, including through certain Ukrainian websites, but didn't specify what resources were involved.
After Ukraine appealed to the world's cryptocurrency exchanges to influence the situation, the accounts Russians used to bypass the sanctions were blocked.
