Seven Gepard units were planned to be scrapped, but they are currently being repaired by Munich company Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) and should be delivered to Ukraine in spring, Spiegel reports.
The German government hopes that later it will be possible to supply additional ammunition for anti-aircraft systems. Currently, 35 mm ammunition is in short supply. Although they are still in stock in various countries around the world, most of them were produced in Switzerland.
In this way, Berlin wants to help Ukraine protect its cities and infrastructure from Russian attacks. 30 Gepard systems, which are already in service, have proven their high efficiency and reliability in the fight against the Russian army.
