German opposition leader Merz calls on government to transfer tanks to Ukraine

Handelsblatt reports with reference to Merz's statement.

"The more we help, the sooner this war will end," he said in response to Chancellor Olaf Scholz's government statement in German Bundestag.

According to Merz, Scholz is covered by NATO partners, but this is misleading.

"It's mostly up to you," Merz told the chancellor, adding that the government could easily provide heavy equipment.
