German opposition demands Patriot for Ukraine from Berlin after US decision
After the US statement on the delivery of Patriot anti-aircraft missiles to Ukraine, the German opposition appealed to the federal government with a request to provide such weapons systems to Kyiv
This was reported by Spiegel with reference to the statement of the general secretary of the opposition Christian Social Union (CSU) Martin Huber.
According to him, the course of the war has shown that it is best to help Ukraine with weapons "so that it can resist Russian aggression." Therefore, the German government should further support Ukraine by supplying weapons, "in particular, Patriot missiles."
The publication notes that Huber also requested the supply of Leopard main battle tanks to Ukraine.
At the same time, the chairman of the defense committee in the Bundestag, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann from the ruling Free Democratic Party, in the newspaper Rheinische Post proposed a kind of division of roles with the US in terms of military support.
"The United States supplies Patriot missiles, and we must urgently take a step to supplying Ukraine with Leopard 2 and Marder self-propelled guns from our reserves together with the Europeans," the politician said.
