German general warns threat of tactical nuclear weapons is real
If Russia uses nuclear weapons, it would immediately change the course of the war on the battlefield and trigger major geopolitical consequences. It could mark the beginning of the end for Vladimir Putin’s regime
This was stated by retired Bundeswehr General and Chairman of the Berlin Security Conference, Reinhard Wolski, in an interview with Espreso TV.
"I’m convinced the threat of using tactical nuclear weapons is real. It’s a serious challenge, mainly aimed at Ukraine’s civilian population, but also a strong message to the West—a sign of Putin’s willingness to escalate to the highest level," he said.
According to Wolski, the use of such weapons would instantly change the course of the war on the battlefield and lead to massive geopolitical consequences.
"It’s not just about the risk of a nuclear strike. Putin is also using nuclear infrastructure, including power plants, as a tool of pressure and blackmail. That’s another level of danger that can’t be ignored," the general added.
He believes Putin won’t dare go that far.
"If he does, he’ll lose control of the situation. The fallout would be unpredictable, and the international response would be firm and unforgiving. This kind of move would leave him completely isolated and could trigger the collapse of his regime," Wolski concluded.
