German Foreign Minister put the blame on Russia for the destruction of the Kakhovska HPP
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has said that only Russia was responsible for the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant, as it had launched a criminal war against Ukraine.
With these words Annalena Baerbock spoke on June 6 in Sao Paulo. "There is only one side responsible for this man-made and ecological disaster – Russia's criminal and invading war in Ukraine," she said.
"The Kakhovka HPP dam, a civilian dam next to the nuclear power plant, has been used as a weapon, putting the lives of people in the area in great danger," Baerbock added. According to her, authorities of Germany are now figuring out the exact pattern of events in close coordination with Ukraine, the G7 and the IAEA.
The German Chancellor also commented on the explosion. He stated that blowing up hydroelectric plant is "new dimension" in war.
In an interview with the WDR TV channel, the German Chancellor did not directly blame Moscow for the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant, but noted that it fits into the picture of the war waged by Russia.
"This is something that is consistent with many of the crimes that we have seen committed by Russian soldiers in Ukraine and is part of the war effort in which civilian objects - cities, villages, hospitals, schools - have been attacked," Olaf Scholz said.
