German Defense Ministry promises to waste no time in resolving issue of Leopard tanks for Ukraine
New German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius plans to visit Ukraine. He also says his country will continue to discuss the issue of supplying Leopard 2 tanks for Ukraine's Armed Forces with its allies
German Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius said this in an interview with Bild am Sonntag.
He avoided a direct answer to the question about the Leopard 2 tanks for Ukraine, but said that Germany “will waste no time” in resolving this issue:
“We are conducting a very close dialogue on this issue with our international partners, primarily with the United States. In order to be as prepared as possible for possible solutions, on Friday I instructed my team to carefully study everything so that in the event of any circumstances, we do not lose time,” Boris Pistorius said.
He also promised to visit Ukraine in the near future, answering the question where the first visit of the newly appointed German minister will take place:
“It is not final yet, but we can say for sure that I will go to Ukraine soon. Probably even within the next four weeks. On Friday, I met my Ukrainian colleague in Ramstein for an intensive exchange. Oleksii Reznikov is an open person who knows for sure what he wants,” the official said.
Bild noted that at least Boris Pistorius had decided to count the number of operational German Leopard 2s at the disposal of the Bundeswehr and industry.
