Scholz accepts German Defense Minister Lambrecht's resignation
German Defense Ministry head Christine Lambrecht resigned after a wave of criticism for the state of the army and too weak support for Ukraine
She announced this on Facebook on January 16.
"Many months of close attention of the mass media to my personality makes business information and discussions about military personnel, the Bundeswehr and setting priorities in the field of security policy in the name of the interests of German citizens practically impossible," the official wrote.
"The valuable work of military personnel and the many motivated people in public circles must remain at the forefront. I have decided to leave my position. I want to thank all those who work every day to keep us safe and wish them all the best in the future," she added.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz approved the resignation of German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht, Focus reports.
Lambrecht headed the German Ministry of Defense from the end of 2021, when Chancellor Olaf Scholz headed the government. Prior to that, Lambrecht held the position of Minister of Justice in the Cabinet of former Chancellor Angela Merkel.
