Georgia's opposition party calls for  visa regime with Russia

According to the leader of the "European Democrats" Nikoloz Vashakidze, the government avoids discussing the problem and does not try to stop and control "the process of influx of citizens from the enemy occupation state".

"I believe that in the current situation, it is necessary for the opposition and society to strictly demand from the authorities to publicize their vision of the dynamics and management of the problem. One of the first and urgent measures should be the introduction of a visa regime with the Russian Federation and a radical restriction of the flow of migration to Georgia", Vashakidze emphasized. 

Currently, the exact number of Russians who moved to Georgia after the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine is unknown. Among those who moved are oppositionists and activists who feared persecution in Russia, simply disagreed with Moscow's policies, young people avoiding military conscription, as well as those who feared that the Russian Federation would close its borders.

In early May, independent research companies estimated the number of Russians who moved to Georgia at 40,000. According to the Greek Tourism Administration, 90,000 Russians entered the country in June, but it is unknown how many of them came as tourists and how many of them remained.
