Georgian opposition calls for limits on real estate sales to Russian nationals
Georgia's largest opposition party has called on the country's Justice Ministry to limit the purchase of real estate by Russian nationals and to introduce measures applying to people entering the country from Russia.
Novosti-Gruzia wrote about this.
One of the leaders of the United National Movement party, member of parliament Levan Khabeishvili said that over the past six months, citizens of the Russian Federation have purchased 3,245 real estate properties. This can be compared with one neighborhood of Tbilisi districts. According to him, 16,500 Russians received residence permits in Georgia, and more than 6,500 registered businesses in the country.
"It is dangerous for the security of our country under the conditions when the government of Georgia does not control anything. These people are not restricted in any way, and we do not know if they are violating the law on occupation", he said.
The United National Movement party offers:
-
to limit the period of stay of tourists from the Russian Federation in Georgia to one month;
-
to introduce restrictions on the purchase of real estate;
-
to introduce restrictions on conducting business activities;
-
to oblige Russian citizens at the border to confirm that they recognize the territorial integrity of Georgia.
The publication reports that a stream of Russian citizens rushed to Georgia in February, after the start of the war in Ukraine. Recently, the opposition has increasingly spoken about the need to apply various measures that will help to more effectively control arrivals from Russia, the state that occupied two Georgian regions.
