G7 finance ministers will discuss sanctions against Russia on Feb 23
On Thursday, February 23, G7 finance ministers will meet to discuss new sanctions against Russia due to its full-scale invasion of Ukraine
This was stated by Japanese Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki, Reuters quoted.
He noted that the main topics of discussion during the meeting will be sanctions against Russia and support for Ukraine.
"We will continue to closely coordinate with G7 and the international community to enhance the effect of sanctions to achieve the ultimate goal of prompting Russia to withdraw," Suzuki said.
This year, Japan chairs the G7 ministerial meetings that will take place before the G7 leaders' summit in Hiroshima on May 19-21. In addition to Japan, the G7 includes the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and the United States.
Later this week, the G20 financial leaders will also meet in Bengaluru, India, which currently holds the G20 presidency. It is expected that the war in Ukraine and the global economy will be the central topic of discussion. They will also talk about inflation, which has been raised by Russia's war against Ukraine, energy and food prices, and support for emerging market economies facing debt problems.
"By contributing to discussions on these problems, we are hoping to produce significant results that will lead to stable and sustainable global growth," Suzuki said.
