G7 ambassadors remind that justice reform is one of key conditions for Ukraine's EU membership

The ambassadors of the G7 countries reminded that the establishment of the High Council of Justice is one of the key conditions for Ukraine's EU path

This is said in the statement of the G7 ambassadors.

"We welcome the publication by the Ethics Council of the decisions regarding candidates for the position of a member of the Supreme Council of Justice from the Congress of Judges. We expect that in January the Congress of Judges will appoint 8 new members of the Supreme Council of Justice. This will restore the work of the Supreme Council of Justice, strengthen the stability of Ukraine during the war and fulfil a key condition for the path to the EU," the ambassadors note.

Separately, the ambassadors of the Group of Seven countries noted that Ukraine continues delivering reforms amid Russia’s war.

It is known that a Competition Commission was created to select members of the High Qualification Commission of Judges. The Ethical Council is responsible for checking all candidates for compliance with the criteria of professional ethics and integrity of the High Council of Justice. The Council consists of six people: three from the Council of Judges, and three more were proposed by international organisations and have a predominant vote when the Council makes decisions.

Earlier, the Venice Commission praised Ukraine for the procedure of enhancing the High Council of Justice.
