G7 agrees to gradually abandon coal
The G7 countries have agreed to abandon coal and switch to renewable energy sources to reduce the impact of climate change.
Reuters shared the whole story.
"There are very specific declarations and agreements to expand the use of renewable energy sources as well, such as the gradual withdrawal of coal," said the German Minister of the Environment Steffi Lemke.
This is the first G7's obligation to abandon coal to avoid climate change.
She noted that the three-day meeting of G7 representatives in Berlin will pay great attention to the protection of nature and the fight against plastic waste.
Steffi Lemke also spoke about the rising costs of energy and fuel supply problems because of the war of Russia against Ukraine. This prompted some countries not to buy Russian fuel and coal to reduce dependence on Russia.
This decision raises concerns because of possible climate change. Germany rejected alternative energy sources due to environmental objectives.
