Fuel reserve for diesel generators at Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant remains for 10-12 days
Ivan Plachkov, former Ukraine's Minister of Fuel and Energy, says that if the Russian forces do not allow diesel fuel to be brought in, cooling of the reactor and the core will stop
He said this on Espreso TV.
“The situation at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant continues to be threatening, because the supply of fuel for diesel generators remains somewhere around 10-12 days. If the Russian forces do not allow diesel fuel to be brought in, then the cooling of the reactor and the active zone will stop. Accordingly, processes will begin with the possible emission of radioactive substances, which cannot be allowed. I hope that the supply line for our own needs will be restored and the situation will become more or less safe at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant,” the former Ukraine's Minister of Fuel and Energy said.
Ivan Plachkov believes that the Russian troops, when they leave the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, will do everything possible to bring the plant's equipment to a condition where repairs will be almost impossible. Accordingly, there will be a very large amount of work to restore the main and auxiliary equipment.
“As for the safe operation of the plant, only Ukrainian operational personnel can ensure this. I have repeatedly said that even if they sign anything and take Russian passports, the main thing is that our personnel stay at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and ensure the operation of the plant and the operation of the equipment, and then we will figure it out. If Rosatom now brings in its operating personnel instead of our specialists, it could be a very big problem, because they will need to learn how to operate the equipment for about a month, and then it is not known what they will do with it. Now the main thing is to stabilize the situation with Ukrainian personnel so that as many of our people as possible remain at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant to ensure the operation of the equipment,” Plachkov explained.
