FSB claims to have arrested "Ukrainian intelligence agents" who allegedly planned assassination attempts on Crimean authorities’ leaders
The Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB) has announced the disclosure of an "agent network of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense" that allegedly prepared assassination attempts on the leaders of the occupation authorities of Crimea
This was reported by Russian media.
"The FSB has stopped the activities of the agent network of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, which planned to carry out a series of high-profile sabotage and terrorist acts in Crimea," the FSB said.
They claimed that the network was allegedly preparing assassination attempts on the head of the occupation authorities of Crimea, Sergey Aksyonov, and the head of the local "parliament", Vladimir Konstantinov, as well as sabotage of the peninsula's transport infrastructure.
"It has been established that the direct organizer of the terrorist attacks and coordinator of the preparation of the assassinations of high-ranking officials is Roman Mashovets, a military intelligence reserve officer, born in 1976, who has been the deputy head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy since 2020," the FSB said.
Russia also says that it has detained "members of a deeply secretive intelligence group of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine" who operated in Crimea - Russian and Ukrainian citizens Viktor Pidvalnyi, Oleksandr Lytvynenko, Serhiy Kryvoshein, Kostyantyn Yevmenenko, Ihor Zorin, and Serhiy Voinarovskyi. They are accused of preparing terrorist attacks, surveillance of officials with the use of special technical means, and the purchase of firearms.
The FSB also stated that it had allegedly uncovered an international smuggling channel from Bulgaria, which passed through Turkey and Georgia to Russia, organized by Ukrainian special services, which supplied explosives and components of explosive devices under the guise of household electric stoves.
