French aid package addresses Ukraine’s full spectrum of needs — Defense Express
Military expert and director of development at the media and consulting company Defense Express, Valeriy Ryabykh, discussed France's new €2 billion aid package for Ukraine
He spoke about this on Espreso TV.
"This is good, especially considering the current uncertainty surrounding further U.S. assistance. We see that France is taking on increased loads, and this is significant for a country like France, which wants to play a key role in ensuring Europe's security. And France has every reason to do so. It has one of the most advanced defense industries, with many products following a closed production cycle. France has always relied on its own capabilities. The size of this package suggests that supplies will continue over an extended period, likely throughout the year. And overall, these resources cover the entire spectrum we need — both for weapons previously supplied to Ukraine and for those that will now arrive," he said.
Valeriy Ryabykh noted that this is a strong aid package, providing a wide range of equipment and support that will significantly boost Ukraine's defense capabilities.
"Among the most interesting items are, of course, the MICA air-to-air missiles. These are key air defense missiles capable of engaging a wide range of aerial threats. Additionally, the package includes the MILAN anti-tank missile system, Mistral missiles, and ammunition for various vehicles, including an additional batch of AMX-10RC wheeled tanks. The French have specifically mentioned ammunition supplies, which is crucial because, for example, these tanks require specialized rounds that are not interchangeable with other types. And what's particularly notable in this package is that, as French President Macron stated, part of the €2 billion will go toward securing orders for Ukraine’s defense industry, especially in segments that have strong cooperation with French companies. Previously, we discussed that around 30 French companies were actively involved in defense cooperation with Ukraine," the military expert noted.
