France blocks funds of Kremlin RT TV channel
France has frozen the funds of the Kremlin's propaganda RT France channel, due to which it may cease to exist
Le Monde reported this with reference to an internal memo of the chief editor of the TV channel, Ksenia Fedorova, which came into the publication's possession.
“All funds in the account have been frozen at the request of the Main Department of the Treasury,” the message reads.
According to Fedorova, this makes it "impossible" to continue working "in the same conditions as before," because without money, it becomes impossible for RT (Russia Today) to pay salaries to employees who are still working..
It is known that in March 2022, RT and Sputnik were banned in the EU to fight Russian disinformation amid Russia's invasion of Ukraine. However, RT France continued to produce content from its bureau in the western district of Paris, which was broadcast in African francophone countries.
Despite the EU sanction, RT France also remained available online, including on fringe platforms such as Odysee.
According to one of the employees, among the staff there is a fear not only of not receiving a salary at the end of January, but also of remaining permanently unemployed due to the fact that they worked in the media, which is labeled "propagandist".
