Five EU countries urge to extend embargo on Ukraine’s agro products till year end

Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia, and Hungary have called on the European Commission to extend the embargo on agricultural products from Ukraine until the end of the year

This was reported by the Polish Ministry of Agriculture.

Currently, the ban on exports of agricultural products has been introduced until June 5.

"The ministers of agriculture of the border countries highly appreciate the agreement concluded with the European Commission and the actions taken to mitigate the effects of increased imports of agricultural and food products from Ukraine. At the same time, they state that the decisions that entered into force on May 2, 2023, may prove to be ineffective and insufficient," the statement published on the website of the Polish agency reads.

Ukraine's neighbouring countries pointed out that the import ban does not apply to goods imported under agreements concluded before May 2. The ministers call on the European Commission to find a way out of this situation by proposing appropriate legally binding mechanisms.

In addition, it is proposed to constantly monitor imports of other agricultural and food products from Ukraine and, if necessary, to take prompt preventive measures against them, as well as to allocate additional funds to support local farmers.
