Finland provides temporary protection to over 25,000 Ukrainians
Finnish authorities say the country has provided temporary protection to more than 25,000 Ukrainians who have arrived since the start of the full-scale war.
SchengenVisaInfo reported the figures.
The Finnish Immigration Service reports that since February, Ukrainians have filed 28,039 applications for temporary protection. By June 15, 26,108 decisions had been made. Almost all of these decisions (25,892) were positive. This means that more than 25,000 Ukrainians received temporary protection.
The number of applications for temporary protection is declining compared to previous months. Currently, about a thousand applications for temporary protection are registered in the country every week. In March, Finland received more than 1,200 applications per day. The Immigration Service explains that the estimated time for deciding on an application for temporary protection is currently about seven days.
"In the spring, when the temporary protection process was first started, there were delays in the service of decisions. After the beginning of May, however, applicants have received their decision rather quickly if there was no need to complement the application with missing information, such as a photograph," Director of Asylum Unit at the Finnish Immigration Service, Antti Lehtinen said.
Ukrainians applying for temporary protection in Finland can get a job as soon as their application is registered by the police or the border control body.
