"There are explosions on Cape Fiolent in occupied Sevastopol, according to local reports," Tsaplienko said.

He noted that a powerful explosion was heard in the central part of Sevastopol. According to the Krym Realii journalist, the explosion caused windows to shake.

Meanwhile, the Krymskyi Viter Telegram channel writes that the explosion allegedly occurred in the area of a radio intelligence unit or an air defense unit. According to them, they are located nearby.

Later, the Telegram channel wrote that ambulances with sirens on were rushing toward Fiolent. Fire trucks were also rushing there.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian media outlet Babel, citing its sources, reported that the explosions in Sevastopol were a joint special operation of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine and the Navy.

"The 26th marine radio engineering unit is based on Cape Fiolent, where the explosions were heard. There is also a radio engineering station with twelve radar antennas," the statement said.

Later, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the alleged operation of Russian air defense, "On September 17, at about 8:30 pm, an attempt by the Kyiv regime to carry out a terrorist attack by an aircraft-type UAV against facilities on the territory of the Russian Federation was stopped."

Russian air defense allegedly destroyed two drones over the southwestern part of the peninsula.

The Russian-appointed governor of the temporarily occupied Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhayev, commented on the smoke near the Southern Bay, "According to information from the Black Sea Fleet, they are using aerosol camouflage agents."

According to him, the situation in the city is calm.

As of 9:30 pm, a local resident told Suspilne Krym that "repeated explosions and shooting were heard in Sevastopol.”

  • On September 14, in Yevpatoriya, the Security Service of Ukraine and the Navy conducted a special operation and attacked the Russian Triumph air defense system.
