Explosion in Zaporizhzhia: 6 people wounded, child among them
On the afternoon of July 12, an explosion occurred in one of Zaporizhzhia's districts, injuring six people, including a small child, who is currently in hospital. 18 people sustained light and moderate injuries, 13 of them were hospitalised
This was reported by the secretary of Zaporizhzhia City Council Anatoliy Kurtiev.
"As of now, 18 people have been injured, including 6 children. 13 people were hospitalised, 5 received outpatient care," he wrote.
According to him, all the victims are in mild to moderate condition.
Windows in six residential buildings were damaged.
The explosion was also reported by the first deputy mayor of Zaporizhzhia, Oleksandr Vlasiuk, Ukrinform reports.
"At 12:30 a.m., during an air raid alert, the State Emergency Service received a signal about an explosion. People were injured. Investigative actions are currently underway, the wreckage of an as yet unknown military facility is being examined. Now, six people have been injured, three of them hospitalised, including a small child, who is now being examined at the regional children's hospital," the official said.
According to him, one victim sustained a leg injury and lost a lot of blood. Others were injured by shrapnel.
It is not known what exactly exploded. But a crater was created at the site, and glass was shattered in nearby buildings.
Later, the director of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Clinical Children's Hospital, Yuriy Borzenko, told Suspilne that five children aged 1 to 17 years were brought to the medical facility.
"All children have mine-blast injuries. There are no seriously-injured children. There is bruising of soft tissues, there are mine-blasted soft tissues. They are now receiving medical care. They will stay with us for 5-7 days," the doctor said.
