European Parliament votes for non-recognition of Russian passports issued in occupied Ukrainian territories
The European Parliament has voted not to accept Russian passports issued in the illegally occupied territories of Ukraine and Georgia
This is stated on the European Parliament's portal.
“The European Parliament is committed to doing its utmost to continue exerting pressure on Russia through legal and political means to make sure Putin pays a high price for this illegal war and for the international crimes committed against Ukraine and its people,” MEP Juan Fernando López Aguilar said.
It is noted that 531 MEPs voted "for", 7 were against, and 34 abstained. Thus, the European Parliament approved the decision not to accept passports and other travel documents issued by Russia in the illegally occupied regions of Ukraine and Georgia.
Now the European Commission must consult with EU member states and draw up a list of Russian travel documents, including passports, which should not be accepted. At the same time, those fleeing the war in Ukraine will still be able to enter the EU for humanitarian reasons.

On November 8, the Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff reported that in the temporarily occupied territory of the Zaporizhzhia region, the invading Russian forces were taking Ukrainian passports from civilians and forcing them to get Russian ones.
