European Parliament allows Ukrainian refugees to use existing driving licenses
The European Parliament has adopted a decision allowing Ukrainian refugees in the EU to continue using Ukrainian driving licenses without getting equivalent EU ones
This was reported by the EP press service.
"Ukrainians who fled to EU countries from Russian military aggression and received temporary protection status will be able to continue using Ukrainian driving licenses without exchanging them for EU licenses or taking a new driving test in the host country while they have the specified temporary protection" the update reads.
In addition, in case of loss or theft of the driver's license, the documents can be restored. EU countries will be able to issue new European licenses after checking with the Ukrainian authorities that the person in question has a valid Ukrainian driver's license.
Also, under certain conditions, Ukrainian refugees who worked as bus or truck drivers will be able to confirm in the EU their certificates of professional suitability, issued in Ukraine, after completing a short training course and passing an exam. This will allow them to work in the EU for the period of temporary protection and will facilitate the export of Ukrainian goods.
This decision of the European Parliament must be officially approved by the Council of the EU and will enter into force five days after its publication in the Official Journal of the EU.
