EU plans to "strike" Russian drone production in new sanctions - Bloomberg
Sanctions against the Russian sector of unmanned aerial vehicles may be introduced in the new ninth package of sanctions, which the European Union plans to approve next week
This was reported by Bloomberg with reference to sources.
The EU is also considering restrictions on other technologies and components used by Moscow for military purposes, as well as measures against Russia's services, investment, media and financial sectors.
The new package, the ninth since Russia invaded Ukraine in February, will also add about 180 individuals and entities to the bloc's sanctions list.
Poland and the Baltic countries have pushed the EU to strengthen the package of measures within the framework of their demands to maintain price restrictions on Russian oil.
A new package of sanctions is expected to be formally proposed and discussed this week, with the aim of having the measures approved before EU leaders meet in Brussels next week. As noted, the adoption of EU sanctions requires the support of all member states.
In recent weeks, Moscow has used drones to attack Ukraine's energy and civilian infrastructure, including using UAVs that the Russian Federation transferred from Iran.
Numerous reports also refer to the use of American and European components in both Russian and Iranian drones. The Kremlin and Iran have denied the use of Iranian drones in Ukraine.
