EU membership will be security component for Ukraine's future, says MP
Ukrainian MP Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, who heads the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Ukraine’s Integration into the EU, said she believes that joining the EU will be an important part of ensuring Ukraine’s future security
Espreso correspondent Kateryna Halko reported the information.
“Without a doubt, EU membership will be a key component of Ukraine’s future security,” said Klympush-Tsintsadze. “Whether it will serve as a security guarantee... I think it’s still too early to say. Both the North Atlantic Alliance and, to some extent, the European Union — especially in terms of its defense and security functions — will need to evolve and develop. At the same time, coalitions of willing nations will emerge, independently of Ukraine, to unite efforts on the European continent and address various security challenges.”
She further added, “In this context, Ukraine will find its place, and EU membership will become an integral part of this security framework — an umbrella for the country.”
On Ukraine’s future in the EU
Speaking about Ukraine’s future in the European Union, Klympush-Tsintsadze emphasized the country’s need for EU support.
“We recognize that, in many areas, we will need to rely on the European Union’s help, especially with reconstruction, restoring our economy, and establishing various internal processes. But at the same time, I deeply hope that we will carry out the necessary reforms to join the EU with pride, and not become a pariah like Hungary is today,” she concluded.
- Earlier, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, named three current priorities of the European Union, among which are accelerating Ukraine’s accession to the EU and opening all negotiation clusters in 2025.
