EU member states' unilateral action on trade is unacceptable: European Commission about ban on importing Ukrainian grain

The European Commission has declared that EU member states' unilateral actions on trade are unacceptable, following a ban imposed by Poland and Hungary on imported Ukrainian grain

Reuters writes about it.

According to the emailed statement, they are aware of the statements of Poland and Hungary regarding the ban on the import of grain and other agricultural products from Ukraine. It is emphasized that trade policy is the exclusive competence of the EU, and therefore unilateral actions are unacceptable.

The statement also added that it is crucial to coordinate and harmonize all decisions within the EU, especially during difficult times.

Due to logistical issues caused by the Russian invasion, several Black Sea ports were blocked, resulting in a surplus of Ukrainian grain in Central European countries, where it is cheaper than grain produced in the European Union. This oversupply has caused a decline in prices and sales for local farmers.
